Jacob Stanley

Artist's CV

My work is a response to our environment: the constructed, industrially-fabricated world that we inhabit. Utilizing both additive and reductive processes, I deconstruct and recontextualize objects in order to gain and illustrate a deeper understanding of our environment. By employing the power of gestalt, multiplicity converts banal objects into points of contemplation. Through my considered treatment of these commonplace materials, the quotidian can be experienced in new ways.

Specifically, I am concerned with architecture and the urban fabric. Appropriating construction and domestic materials, which form the basis of my ephemeral installations, activate unused and overlooked areas. Being site-responsive, these installations integrate site, material, and form.

The tangibly perilous nature of my work engages the public on a gut level: leading viewers to interact with the work not only conceptually, but also—and more importantly—physically.
